UN Security Council approves draft resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza during Ramzan, US abstains

The United Nations Security Council on Monday (March 25) approved a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire between Gaza and Israel during the holy month of Ramzan. The UNSC called for the cease-fire, in its first demand to halt the war. The United States abstained from voting on the resolution which also demanded the release of all hostages captivated during Hamas’ October 7 attack in southern Israel.
